Skin needs extra pampering from fall to spring. Your skin is expose not only to harsh cold but extremes of cold and warmth, freezing temperatures, cold wind, dry heat can all gang up on your skin and reduce its elasticity and encourage wrinkle creation and premature aging.

Your skin can only feel three things, heat, cold, and pressure. It is much more sensitive to cold than it is to heat. You have about 30 cold receptors per square inch of skin surface and only about 6 heat receptors. (But that is also why our Chiller works so well if you've ever had a Pro Fractional Laser procedure!) Cold temperatures and wind chills shrink blood vessels reducing the amount of blood to the skin and therefore reducing the source of internal heat. The reduced blood flow not only makes you feel cold but it also sends fewer nutrients and less oxygen to your skin. It's no wonder you skin looks pale, dry, and tired in the winter time.

The cold dry air absorbs the skin's moisture too, making it brittle chafed and irritated making it more prone to injury and infection. Winter is definitely time for a kinder gentler approach to skin care.

  • Consider a milder cleanser for winter.
  • Avoid long exposure to hot water. Keep those hot showers to 10 minutes.
  • Avoid scrubbing your skin when cleansing.
  • Use a face treatment that stimulates blood flow like Meso-Facial Rejuvenation or something as simple as a gentle skin massage. The stimulants will flush out toxins, combat dryness, and restore healthy blood circulation.
  • Take advantage of having less sun to repair summer skin damage like age spots, and hyperpigmentation with BBL (broad band light laser). Less sun means your skin will rebound faster and with better results.
  • Hydrate! Use your moisturizer more often through the day, especially in areas of the face, hands and feet. Even oily skin needs moisturizing. If left alone, oily shin will generate more oil, clogging pours and causing breakouts. Remember to apply your moisturizer 30-40 minutes before going outside to give it a chance to bond with your skin.
  • Remember your SPF 30 everyday. UVA/B rays don't take the winter off.
